Beaufort Youth Camp Enjoys Puppetry and Puppet-Making Fun

On Tuesday, April 22nd, New Bern Puppets participated at a Spring Youth Camp hosted by the Beaufort County Arts Council at the Turnage Theatre in Washington, NC.

After giving a marionette show about the history of puppetry, along with introduction to various types of puppets, members from the troupe demonstrated how to create hand puppets.

Ten eager pre-teens and teens began creating hand puppets. To attach the eyes, ears and other facial features, we used a hot glue gun.

They children created short skits using our portable hand puppet stage. It was a delightful time!

After instruction, the participants were allowed to use marionettes at one of our stages. A teen practices how to move pharaoh.

Cyndi Papia and Dennis Listermann-Vierling thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Our first time conducting a puppet workshop.

One parent kindly donated this hand puppet stage and two puppets to us. We hope to put this stage to use in the future at similar puppet workshops.
